Ideal for rapid, multi-stage hole expansion and incremental drilling in plastics, plywood, acrylic sheets, copper, brass, aluminum, and thin iron sheet metal.
These incremental step drill bits allow you to clean, deburr, and chamfer holes of different diameters using a single tool.
Warning on Sheet Thickness: These bits are optimized for sheet metal and materials with a maximum thickness of 5mm (approx. 0.2 inches). If you attempt to drill through materials thicker than 5mm, the incremental stepped profile of the bit will produce a conical or dual-stepped hole (mismatched entry and exit diameters).
These bits are engineered for softer structural materials with a Rockwell hardness under 25 HRC.
While our smaller models (4-12mm, 4-20mm, 4-32mm) are equipped with standard quick-change hex shanks, the massive 6~52mm 13-Step model features a thickened 12mm three-flat shank to withstand extreme rotational torque. Please check the maximum chuck capacity of your hand drill, bench drill, or rotary tool to ensure it can clamp a 12mm (approx. 0.47 inches) shaft before purchasing.

Q: Can I use this HSS-4241 step drill bit to enlarge a hole in my stainless steel sink?
A: No. HSS-4241 is not hard enough to cut through stainless steel or high-tensile carbon steel. Attempting to drill stainless steel will overheat the bit, destroying the cutting edge instantly. For stainless steel, premium cobalt-alloy (HSS-Co M35) step bits are required.
Q: What causes the bottom of the hole to be smaller than the top entry hole when drilling thick boards?
A: This is due to the stepped pagoda design of the bit. Since each level is only a few millimeters deep, if the material thickness exceeds 5mm, the bit cannot pass completely through to the next step without the preceding step continuing to widen the entry hole, resulting in a stepped, uneven bore.
